The Hill Country Planning Association

Hill Country Planning Association formed almost a year ago from several meetings attended by local citizens concerned with the rapid expansion & development of the NW BX & surrounding areas. We have written a Master Plan with what we have and want to see in what remains of our pristine portion of the Hill Country. Our group has 18 member groups, several Homeowner Associations and numerous individual landowners, and is also a member group to organizations such as GEAA (Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance), HHA (Helotes Heritage Assoc), SGVA (San Geronimo Valley Assoc), Valentine Ranch and others.

Those who can have attended numerous SAWS, Planning & Zoning, City Council, Commissioners Court, TCEQ, water district board & other various meetings around BX, Medina, Bandera & Kendall Counties. We are also attending workshops that focus on topics like Cedar Brush Mgt, Hydrology & Geology of The Hill Country, Rainwater Catchment, etc.

Several months ago the HCPA decided we would present various educational programs rather than just our regular monthly meetings. There are many people new to the area and some old-timers unfamiliar with geologic and hydrologic vocabulary, formations, history, and some who are unfamiliar with the special history of this area. The development is not taking into consideration the limited water, endangered species above & below ground, or the fragile nature of this entire region. It is money and greed! We will not stop development, but wish for responsible development and for the governmental agencies to know we are watching, informed and expect them to be accountable.
