The Scenic Loop – Boerne Stage Corridor was recently listed on the prestigious Preservation Texas "Most Endangered Places 2009". The historic Corridor is under siege! The hills are being dynamited for subdivision development. Our water quality and resource, wildlife habitat, view sheds, and historic communities are being destroyed and/or compromised. This corridor and every other one that connects San Antonio with the Texas Hill Country, without exception, has been upgraded to allow for maximum transport of traffic. Because of the lack of county regulation, minimal municipal regulation, and intensive development of rural areas outlying San Antonio, the Scenic Loop – Boerne Stage Corridor is under immediate threat of being upgraded.

To Whom It May Concern,

I support the efforts of the Scenic Loop – Boerne Stage Alliance to pursue the historic designation of the Scenic Loop – Boerne Stage Corridor from its intersection at Bandera Rd (Hwy 16) to the Balcones Creek at the Kendall County Line. This Corridor also includes Boerne Stage Rd at Leon Springs at I-10, west to the Toutant-Beaurregard intersection, and continues west on Toutant to the Kendall County Line.

Much documentation of the history of the Scenic Loop – Boerne Stage Corridor is found in archaeological records, Spanish Land Grants, Civil War Veteran Land Scripts, historic deeds, stage coach schedules and various other writings, including oral histories. Several areas and homes along the Corridor have received or have applied for national and/or state historic designations. Some are included in the Heart of Texas Wildlife Trail – East, produced by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and two of several novels written about the area: Helotes: Where the Hill Country Begins (C. Massey) and The Settlement of Leon Springs, Texas (M Richardson). We lend our support in protecting and preserving this historic Corridor and the natural integrity of the area, and encourage you to do the same.
