Texans strongly identify with land ownership, from the ranchers with huge spreads for cattle to
the family homestead that is passed down from generation to generation. With urban sprawl that
has reached far beyond the main metropolitan areas and turned farms into subdivisions and open space into
strip malls, land issues are one of Texas' greatest concerns. Land use issues in turn affect water-related
issues tremendously.
