AGUA recently wrote you to say that the City Council postponed appointing three new SAWS Board members until May 7, 2009. This postponement was in recognition of the importance of the SAWS Board and how its members often determine the intensity of new development over the Edwards Aquifer. AGUA is supporting the nomination of Jerry Morrisey to the SAWS Board (Northeast Quadrant) because he represents a reasoned, balanced perspective and years of experience with local water issues. The importance of the SAWS Board cannot be understated: your input will help ensure the selection of members who will invest equally in Aquifer protection and the promotion of new development. YOUR TASK: Please take a moment to contact your Council member and the Mayor in support of Jerry Morrisey for the SAWS Board (NE Quadrant). You can find contact info at: www.sanantonio.gov/council or attached to this email. Here’s why AGUA supports Jerry Morrisey : • Jerry has 20 years experience advising local government on the need for greater water quality protection and water conservation. • He has served on the following committees in an advisory role: o 1996 Mayor’s Committee on Water o EAA water quality advisory committee o SAWS Community Conservation Committee (10 years) o SAWS Rate Advisory Committee • He supports setting low water rates for low income households and those who lower their water usage through conservation. • He admits he's a "numbers guy": a thoughtful evaluation of water quality, conservation, and rate-structure data will inform his decisions as a SAWS Board member.
