Signs of Oak Wilt - What To Look For
04/19/2009
By Jan Wrede
The following article is reprinted from The Boerne Star with permission from the author, Jan Wrede of the Cibolo Nature Center.

Spring is a crucial time to be aware of oak wilt in your neighborhood. We all want to do the right thing at the right time to save our trees and spend as little money as possible.

Knowledge is the first line of defense and the very best source of accurate information is the Texas Oak Wilt Information Partnership Web site www.texasoakwilt.org/index.html.

Oak wilt is caused by a fungus that clogs the trees water vessels. All oaks are susceptible and it is an especially serious problem in our area for Spanish oak and blackjack oaks (both in red oak category) as well as live oaks.
